The Ukrainian Community of Hampton Roads was honored to present the art exhibition “Dreaming of Ukraine” at the Central Library of Virginia Beach.
Our call for artists brought together an incredible group of talented Ukrainian artists whose works reflect both their creativity and their heritage. The exhibition features paintings in a wide variety of styles, mediums, and genres—from still lifes, seascapes, and portraits to sculptural works, the vibrant floral traditions of Petrykivka painting, and expressive neurographic abstractions. This remarkable collection offers something for every visitor, inviting viewers to discover something new, unexpected, and inspiring through the unique artistic voices of Ukrainian creators.
On July 18, we hosted our Meet & Greet the Artists reception, giving visitors the opportunity to meet the artists, learn about their creative processes, and hear the stories behind their works. It was an evening filled with meaningful conversations, personal connections, and a shared appreciation for art and culture.
We are proud to introduce our talented participating artists: Liliia Mozgova, Anastasia Ivasyuk, Nataliia Sytnyk, Paula Pokhodnya, Lyudmyla Uzhbabenko, Victoriia Useinova, Margarita Pendiur, Oksana Rubio, and Svitlana Ivasyuk.
We are thankful to our youngest generation of debut artists Mariia Sytnyk, Sena Sonmezler, and Laura and Kvitoslava Mozil to display their artwork during the event.
The evening celebrated more than the visual arts. Guests were also treated to the beauty of movement and music. Yaroslava Mozil, together with her daughters Magdalena, Laura, and Kvitoslava, performed the graceful dance Magical Birds. Nataliia Sytnyk touched the audience with heartfelt performances of I Will Paint on Paper and Soul Flower, filling the room with the beauty of Ukrainian melodies and emotion.
It was truly an unforgettable evening.
We are delighted that the exhibition has been extended through the month of August, allowing even more visitors to experience these inspiring works. The exhibition can be viewed at the Central Library as well as online through the Ukrainian Community Center website.
